The proverbs are wise sayings: What is a proverb?
A proverb is a short statement that gives advice or states a truth. Often proverbs become common sayings, for example: “an apple a day keeps the doctor away,” or “better late than never.”

All the proverbs in the book of Proverbs in the Bible are based on being obedient to God and living in a way that is honoring to Him.
Seeking wisdom, shunning folly has its own reward: What does this mean?
The word folly means foolish or bad for you. These proverbs talk much about the shame that folly brings and the honor that wisdom brings.
Most of these were written and compiled by Solomon: What does compiled mean?
King Solomon had many proverbs that were already being used in Israel put all together in collection. He wrote many, but not all of them. Others also helped Solomon collect them and some may have been collected after his death.
As a moral guide for teaching everyone: What does this mean? Moral guide means doing the right things instead of the wrong things. God cares about the little things we do not just the big things. Even in small little things like not being lazy, or saying unkind words, or eating too much of a good thing–all the little things we do to honor God, matter to Him!
Preparing: The proverbs were given to the Jewish people, through whom the Savior would come, to teach them to be wise, and honor God and people, in their everyday activities.
Pictures: This book encourages us over and over to seek wisdom. Our Savior is “Christ in whom are hidden all the treasure of wisdom and knowledge.” Colossians 2:3.
