How do we worship and how do we live
In the presence of God most high?
Leviticus was the instruction book
Given at Mt. Saini.

Be ye Holy for I am holy,
Here’s the law specific and clear,
Five offerings, seven feasts,
to guide you each day of the year.

Leviticus was the instruction bookIs Leviticus still the instruction book for us to know how to worship and live?

There is much we can learn from everything in the Bible, and in Leviticus we can learn about the holiness of God, and how he provided ways for people to come to Him. The laws and the offerings were for people living before Jesus came.

five offerings, seven feastsWhat are the five offerings?

The burnt offering, meal offering, peace offering, sin offering, and trespass offering are all pictures of Jesus offering for us. (see resources below)

What are the seven feasts? The 7 feasts are Passover, Unleaven Bread, First Fruits, Feast of Weeks or Pentecost, Feast of Trumpets, Day of Atonement, and Feast of Tabernacles or Booths. These feasts all represented something God had done for his people and also pointed to something Jesus would do. (see resources below)

Be ye holy for I am HolyWhat does it mean that God is Holy?

God is perfect in character and set apart from us. There is no way we can have a relationship with Him or know Him or get to Him on our own.

How can we be holy?

God declares us holy when we put our trust/faith in Jesus as payment for our sin. This is called being justified before God. See 2 Corinthians 5:17 Growing in holiness, being sanctified, or set apart for God, comes through growing to trust and obey Him every day. See 1 Peter 3:14-16.

Before Jesus came how did the people show their faith in God and be holy?

They showed their faith in God by following the rules (or the laws) God gave them.   The sacrificial offerings were to pay for their sin because they knew it was impossible for them to follow the law perfectly.

How do we show our faith in God?

Jesus came as the perfect sacrificial Lamb for us.  He willingly came to die to pay for our sin.   We show our faith in God by putting our trust in Jesus and then His Spirit comes to live inside us to give us strength to grow in obeying God.  We show our faith by trusting God to help us obey, and by training with other Christians to obey.

Preparing: Leviticus teaches about the holiness of God and how impossible it is for us to live up to God's standards on our own.

Pictures: The five offerings and seven feasts are all pictures pointing to what Jesus the Savior would do to provide for us. See resources for more details.

More to talk about:

What are some instructions God has given us in the Bible that we can trust Him to help us obey? These are for children and parents in Ephesians 6:1-4:

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.  Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise),  so that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth.

Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. ~NASB

Five offerings, seven feasts: What The Bible is All About for Young Explorers p. 44 tells how each of the offerings points to the Savior. Google– 7 Feasts that Point to Christ from Wycliffe Bible Translators for pictures and explanations of how each feast points to what Jesus provides.
