Firm resolve to honor God noble Daniel bringsWhat does resolve mean?

It is a firm decision.

What does noble mean?

Both meanings of the word noble work for Daniel. One meaning is being born into royal bloodline, and Daniel was in the royal line of Judah. Noble also means an outstanding, honorable character, and that also describes Daniel.

Exiled into Babylon, he served four Gentile kingsHow old was he when he went into exile and what kings did he serve?

He was a young man–we do not know his exact age. The kings he served were two Babylonian kings, Nebuchadnezzar and Belshazzar, and two Persian kings, Darius and Cyrus.

Daniel’s life and visions show God’s in control:

Remember these stories from Daniel and how they show God is in control?

Which king had Daniel’s 3 friends thrown into a fiery furnace?

King Nebuchadnezzar

Which king did Daniel explain mysterious handwriting on the wall for?

King Belshazzar

Which king had Daniel thrown into the lion’s den?

King Darius

What were some of Daniel’s visions that show God is in control?

Daniel has visions of a statue and later different beasts that represent the nations/kingdoms of this world. They may be ruled by arrogant men like the kings Daniel served, but God is ultimately in control and these kingdoms will not last. One day God will set up his perfect kingdom that will last. History is truly HIS STORY.

Preparing: Daniel’s prophecies were a great comfort to the exiled people of Israel that one day their nation would be restored. His life also encouraged the people through whom the Savior would come to be true to the Lord no matter what circumstances they faced.

Pictures: The time of the coming of the “Anointed One” (The Savior) and the fact that He would be “cut off” (we now know that meant He would be crucified for us) is in Daniel 9:25-26. There are also pictures of Jesus after His second return as is true in many of books of the major and minor prophets of the Old Testament. They did not know the Savior would be coming two times, first as a suffering servant to pay for our sins, and then as a conquering King in his second coming.
