Can be sung to the "Cradle Song" tune:
Away in the Manger

A time of change from Judges to Kings;
The book of 1st Samuel more history brings.
Three leaders in Israel whose lives tell it all:
First, Samuel the prophet, then jealous King Saul.
Third, David the King who brings Israel to glory,
2nd Samuel tells us that part of the story,
God promised King David through his royal line,
Messiah would come in the fullness of time.

A time of change from Judges to Kings: Why was there a change from Judges to Kings?

The people of Israel asked for a king like the other nations around them. This is in I Samuel 8.

How long was the time of Judges?

The Judges lasted about 338 years.

Then jealous King Saul: Why was King Saul jealous?

In I Samuel 18:6 it says that women were singing about all that David had done in battle, much more than Saul, and he became jealous from that point on and tried to kill David.

Third, David the King who brings Israel to glory: What does that mean?

Under King David’s leadership Israel became a strong and leading nation.

God promised King David through his royal line, Messiah would come in the fullness of timeWhat is the fullness of time?

It means when the time is just right according to God’s plan. This promise was made in 2 Samuel 7:16.

Prepare: The house of David is the family through whom the Savior (Messiah) would come.

Picture: King David was born in Bethlehem, and was a shepherd and a king. Jesus was born in Bethlehem and is The Good Shepherd and the King of Kings.

See What the Bible is All About Bible Handbook for Kids, p. 76 and What the Bible is All About for Young Explore, p.77 for more on how Samuel and David are pictures of the Savior.

In The Jesus Bible Story Book, pp116-129 are two stories from I Samuel that both “whisper Jesus name.”
